Help, please. I have two questions:
1) Everything that I've seen regarding this great car states that it came standard with leather interior. My boss is looking at one at an upcoming auction that states, "original upholstery." The problem is that it looks like cloth seats. Is there any way that could be the case? I didn't find the photo of the seats, and I cannot verify that is the car at the auction. I have previously told my boss that the car came with only two options, AC and the Continental Tire Kit. Can anybody verify this for me?
2) I have read that most of these cars came with the white/red flash paint, but I have also seen white/blue flash. Today I read where about 20 were painted white/blue. This was in a for sale ad, so I'm not believing that. Does anybody have any info on this? I know that there were about eight "gray" vehicles produced.
Thanks for your input,

In Jonh Gunnell's book "Seventy-Five Years of Pontiac- the Official History" he mentions: "In addition to fuel injection, standard equipment on all Bonnevilles included Strato-Flight Hydra-Matic transmissions; power steering, brakes windows, and front seat; the DeLuxe basic group; dual exhaust; electric windshield wipers; windshield washer; 8.50 x 14 whitewall tires; DeLuxe wheel discs; a cushioned instrument panel; and hand-buffed genuine leather trim." One would have to assume "trim" referred to the interior as a whole, or it would say "some material with leather trim."
Without an order form, I wouldn't know if A/C and continental kit were factory or dealer items. Actually, I can't find any photos of a Fuelie with a continental kit.
As for colors, I think I have seen about equal numbers of white with blue spears as white with red spears... maybe a hair more with red, though I highly doubt only 20 built as such. And yes, there were a "few" (actual number unknown) that were considered as black. Maybe it is a deep gray.
I bet there is a ton of info on this model on-line. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

Thanks, Larry! I have looked quite a bit, and there is nothing definitive regarding the colors (red vs. blue).
Supercars.net (April 24, 2016) states "The only two options were the factory air and continental tire kit."
Ken Nagle Classic Cars, 2016 states "There were only two options, air conditioning and a continental kit, everything else was included."
This afternoon, I located five sources that said standard equipment included leather upholstery.
Our car has the continental kit.
Thanks again! _________________ |

When you say "our car" is that in reference to the auction car? If your boss wants to buy it, I wonder what an incorrect upholstery might do to the value. Replacing with correct leather could be quite expensive. It would be interesting to hear "the story" if this is in fact claimed to be original.
The option list was quite complete, pretty much leaving the A/C and continental kit as the only things left off. I've never really heard if the factory actually installed the con kits on the cars of this era, or if the dealers did. They sure would be a bear to load and unload on the truck haulers with this extra length- especially when climbing up the ramps! _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
