Hi guys,
I'm new here but recently bought a 62 bonnevile for restoration. My question is the bottoms of the front window trim is completely rusted out. Is there anywhere I can find that type item or do I have to have it fabricated. Thanks for any help you may have.

I'm kind of iffy on "the bottoms of the front window trim." I'm sure you aren't referring to the chrome/stainless, right?
What area/parts are you referring to? _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

If it is the window channel you are referring to, you will probably have to fabricate something. Maybe you can find a good parts car with the area needed.
If the parts car is that solid though, it is sometimes hard to cut them up.
maybe there is another make or model GM car that you can cut up for the needed sheetmetal.
If you are just needing the stainless trim, I have a friend that has a 1962 Grand Prix. The car is very rusty, but maybe there is something salvageable.
Good luck on your project. |

I was able to pull the glass off the bottom frame, And reinstall it with RTV 'liquid rubber' and it works. _________________ |

Ah, window glass channel.
That is a good fix. I hope you cleaned it up[real well and sealed with rust proof paint. I use Rustoleum Rusty Metal paint and then paint black.
They used to use a cork strip to wrap around the glass bottoms and then force it all into the channels. But as you did, the shops now use RTV. The trick, however, is to squeeze the channel together at the top, so that when you seal the glass in with the silicone, it is triangular shapped towards the top. Reason? The glass can never pull out of the channel like it sometimes liked to do with the cork. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
