I have 2 1940 pontiac's 40-2511's that I am working on restoring.
I need a inner front fender on the driver side for one of them, but it doesn't list it in the interchange book that I have.
I found one off of a 4dr in CA, but I'm not sure if it's the same or not.
Did Pontiac use the same hood/fenders/inner for all the same models, only changing everything behind the firewall?
Seems that way looking at pictures, but I"m just trying to verify it before I purchase it.
Thanks!

I have a 1940 2519, the four-door version of your two-door. These are the Chevy-bodied Pontiacs. The 26 and 28 models are Buick/Oldsmobile-bodied, and the 29 model (Torpedo) is the Cadillac-bodied.
I have checked my 1940 parts manual and cannot find parts called "inner fender." I'm sure it is there, but they are calling it something else, and I'm just missing it. However, as known, all these model groupings use different fenders, hoods, etc. Therefore, I highly doubt that a 26/28 or 29 model inner fender will fit a 25 model. I would bet that only a 25 model will fit, but from any body style (coupe or sedan). If the one you found is from a 2519-- go for it!
I do find a part called "Skirt, Front Fender" that comes in left and right sides. It also designates right hand and left hand drive. These might be the parts, as they were different on each side due to the steering box. And, as I suspect, they show different ones as I state above by model designation. Guess what? In 1940 they would set you back a whole $4.50 each!
Keep us posted on your restoration. Love those '40s!! |

I would have to agree with you that the 25's and 26's are different. But just looking at the front fenders you would guess that they are the same.
But like you, I checked the book and couldn't find any references to them at all. Just trim rings, etc.
They list ever other body part that you can think of, turrents, etc, but just no front fenders. _________________ |

I do find the fenders, and they are different between the model groups.
25 MODEL: R/H PN 503660 L/H PN 503661
26-28 MODEL: R/H PN 503662 L/H PN 503663
29 MODEL: R/H PN 503698 L/H PN 503699
With these differences, one would expect the inner fenders to be different too.
I wonder if the Chevy inner panels are the same. I can't find any listings for them in Hollander Interchange. Other than the headlights, the fenders were pretty much the same. However, the 25 model inner fenders should not be too hard to find. We have some supplers who give our members nice discounts (California Pontiac Restoration and Kelsey come to mind). |
