|
|
Hi All, Newbie to this forum. I have a 1971 Lemans with a 350 2bbl, A/C power disc / drum, 350 auto. I have been trying to figure out the difference between a Lemans, Lemans Sport, and a GT-37.
My car came with the shark gills on the side and chrome rocker moldings. I see some other Lemans models have these, some don't.
Can anyone clarify the different models for me??
Thanks!!

The GT-37 is usually proclaimed as the poor man's GTO. The GT-37 was based off the post body style. Their were a number of engine options, up to and including the 455 H.O. This was the same round port head engine installed in GTOs.
The GT-37 was also the only production Pontiac to have hood pins installed. No other Pontiacs ever had this.
Check out the vintage ad section of this forum to view an ad of a GT-37. There was also a recent magazine that covered in detail the 1971 GT-37. I believe it was Hemmings Muscle Machines. It was about two months ago.
Larry also has an article covering the T-37. Don't know if it covered the GT-37. |

Below is a page (cut and pasted) from the "Standard Catalog of Pontiac: 1926-2002" by Pontiac author and historian, John Gunnell. It should pretty much show everything you ever wanted to know about the '71 LeMans.
Note under "Options" it mentions "Tempest." This is probably a typo as the Tempest name was dropped by '71 in favor of just LeMans.
Hope this helps. |
