I've got a manifold casting number 521512, which comes back to a rochester 4-bbl carb. The current carb is a newer Edlebrock. The rest of the entire car appears original. The heads are dated May 6, 1955 and the block is dated May 2, 1955. There is no date stamped on the intake. I am assuming that the car came with a 4bbl, but it could have come with a 2bbl. Is there any way to determine for sure that this intake is original to the car? _________________ |

Sounds like you're busy with your Pontiacs!!
According to Pete McCarthy's book "Pontiac Musclecar Performance 1955-1979," the 521512 number is definitely a 1955 manifold (4-bbl. of course).
The 4-bbl. was certainly a popular option, but I don't know of any way to decisively link it to a particular car without the original ordering information, which isn't available (as I know) back that far.
I see no reason to not claim the 4-bbl. heritage, and certainly nobody would be able to prove it wrong (which it probably isn't). _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

Thanks, Larry! The last thing that I want to do is to make a false claim. I think that the other thing which points to the originality of the car is that the 4bbl was supposedly available only after mid-year, and the this was a May, 1955 car. _________________ |

Hi John,
It seems that the only reason you might have questioned the pedigree was because of the non-original carb, right? Better to check, but I think all things point to an authentic 4-bbl. car.
BTW, I find that the carb could be a WCFB2283S (manual trans.) or WCFB2268S (auto trans.). Also from McCarthy's book. We do have some carb charts in our Tech Forum section that may confirm/help.
Take care,
