when the machine shop went to install new bushings in my 2628 spindles they were able to push them right in by hand without press fitting them. My mechanic says they are supposed to be press fit. Do I have rounded out spindles and need oversized bushings or were they supposed to "float"? thanks

The Shop Manual does not mention any pressing of the old bushings out, or the new bushings in. As a matter of fact, the manual says to "lift out the floating bushings." It has been a long time since I replaced the bushings, but do not remember any special shop needs to accomplish (like a press). The old ones may have required some tapping with a socket or something to remove because of age, but the new ones probably just slid in.

It would seem to me that if they fit snuggly in the spindle with no signs of rocking around, you would be fine. There is no place they can go, so they certainly will not fall out. Have they used a mic on the bushing OD and spindle ID? A couple thousands clearance should be normal.
