Hello first of all ! found this site and am really happy I did,
Just started to drive my Custom S convertible I just acquired, and have a LOT of rattles in the doors. Can anyone fill me with knowledge on what to purchase to quiet them down ?
Thanks for your time,

Glad you found us. Beautiful car!
Most of these older cars had huge windows, and therein is where most the rattles come from. My niece's '76 Trans Am drives me nutz with the windows rattling around.
I did a quick look on-line and found this source: http://www.autoobsession.com/windowfeltkit1969-72gtolemans.aspx
Check it out. It is a complete kit. Other places like Metro Rubber and Steele Rubber most likely sell similar items, as well as Pontiac specialty places like Ames, Year One, Original Parts Group, NPD, etc. Shop as many places as you can and look for the best price with the most pieces.
Keep in mind also that there could be some broken clips, brackets, etc. but most likely it is the deterioration of the original soft products that are causing the noise.
Good luck! _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

"all the guts inside the door"....? Unless you find broken things, there won't be anything really needing rebuilding. That said, however, check all you window channels and rollers at the bottom of the glass. Get any old dried out grease out, and if any of the nylon rollers are damaged, they are available in a number of places.
For now your project is disassembly, cleaning, inspecting, tightening anything loose, repair anything broken, and replace all rubber guides and seals. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
