2009 G6 First Run Model, anyone know on how to disable OnStar?
Ever since my subscription ran out my battery gets drained within 2 days of storage. It sat for 2 weeks in prior year and started no problem, this started exactly when OnStar was canceled, coincidence - maybe? _________________ |

If you do a Google search ("Disable OnStar") you can find all sorts of interesting reading. Including all the scary stories of "Big Brother" tracking your every move through OnStar and onboard computers. Maybe that's how they caught John Edwards cating around!
I have heard over the years that even with discontinued service (not paying them!) you can push the button and get help. It is probably a liability thing there. However, that does not solve the battery drain situation.
Some sources say only a dealer can disable the OnStar... others say "Pull out the fuse." That almost sounds too easy. Then some more say replace the rearview mirror with a non-OnStar unit (if yours is in the mirror).
Now, all that being said, are you sure that it is the OnStar draining the battery. Many hobby publications report peole having similar problems that are caused by the alarm systems. Reports of cars sitting more than two weeks yield dead batteries. A battery switch can solve that.
Please let us know how you solve this problem so others can learn from it. |

, I don't know anything about OnStar or modern American Pontiacs, but I'm thinking if you simply disconnect the battery when you put the car into storage, would that solve the issue? Would that be also be cheaper, easier and quicker than installing a battery isolation switch? Just some outloud thinking.

Ross. _________________ |
