Hello,
I was wondering if I change the original color to a different one, it could affect the value of the car.
I want to paint my 1981 Turbo Trans Am from '' spectra red to '' starlite back'' with gold accent.
Thanks for your time, I really appreciate your precious advice

This is an area that creates a lot of confusion. But the confusion is mostly because of a real lack of a good answer. So with that proviso, I will offer my 2-cents.
I have seen a number of shows and magazine articles where huge dollar cars are painted non-original colors and sometimes actually raise the value. For example, a Ferarri or Duesenberg may be preferred in certain zippy colors- thus the value goes up. But on the flip side, many "purists" think the value of a car drops as soon as the color doesn't match the data tag.
But what do you do when you have a car with a really yucky color, or at least one without a "neat" color? Who wouldn't want their '67 GTO convertible painted bright red instead of a factory correct yellow, or something equally unexciting?
That brings us to your situation. While you have a super car, it isn't going to drop any appreciable amount if the color doesn't match its factory original skin... unless you're entering points judging and get zipped for the color change. But on the other hand, the value may shoot up if you change it to a sexy or exciting color that everyone likes- including a potential new buyer. So, the bottom line is... it's your car and you need to make the decision of what makes you the happiest. If the new color makes you smile more than the color you don't like that doesn't loose points in judging competition than GO FOR IT! _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
