Looking for a few parts for a '39 Pontiac 4 door although some parts I need can be found on a '38 as well and many parts I am looking for are the same on a 2 door '38 or '39 but if you know more vehicles that parts may be interchangeable, please let me know.
Looking for tail light housings & lenses and looking for the hood opening mechanism that mounts on the top center of the hood. I only need the " feathers " and the "J" hook which actually latches the hood....but I would buy the whole indian, feathers, mechanism and hook. I am not sure, but I think that part from a '38 is interchangeable.
I also need both door sill plates for the drivers side.
I need a windshield wiper knob and shaft, heater core and housing with all the parts and controls, and any interior parts like door panels, clock, etc. Literally anything for the interior I may be interested in.
Anything else you might have, interior or exterior I may be interested in as well. Again, door panels and many parts from a '38 may work.
Oh, I also need truck deck hinges which have to come from a 4 door but can be a '38 or '39....some Chevy, Olds, Buick and Cad parts may work as well. I don't need any engine, drive train, brake, axle, or any parts like those.
Thanks....any help is appreciated. |

Your search for '39 Pontiac parts isn't going to be very wide. As a matter of fact, there is little the same (or even close) from the '38.
The hood is totally different as the '38 had a split hood and the '39 a whole one. My 1940 parts Manual only shows the hood latch spring and a clevis pin as the same for the '39 and '40.
Door sill step plates will be near impossible. JC Whitney used to handle a reproduction set like I put on my '40 Pontiac. Not exactly the same as original, but very nice looking. Depending on the body style you have, 25, 26, or 28, you can broaden your search into other GM products (25- Chevy, 26 & 28= Buick and Oldsmobile). A long time ago I happened on a set of 1936 Buick plates in a junk yard. The entire car was near dust and rust, but the step plates were beautiful.. go figure. My brother-in-law used them on his '36 Checy Master Deluxe. The fronts were the same, but he had to shorten the rears (very carefully).
For taillamps, the '37 and '38 show as the same, but '39 and the rest are unique to themselves.
Deck hinges are rare as NOS, but Regal and some others made nice NORS items and thay appear quite a bit at swap meets. Be very careful as to your body style as there are many differences in the hinges. If you have Chevy or Buick/Olds body, that will broaded your search too. I do not know of any style differences between car types... just body styles.
Interior items for the dash look very similar between the '38 and '39, but I highly doubt would interchange. The dashes were actually quite different. Door panels might be the same between '39 and '40, but I doubt '38.
These cars had very few, other than mechanical, similarities back then. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
