I have an Australian Delivered 1957 Superchief.
I believe the original Engine No to be -0303946.
The Body No shown on firewall plate is : 57-274B-73
I cannot find a Chassis No on any part of the Chassis rail.
Is there anyplace I can get more original info?
Thanks _________________ |

When you say Australian delivered, do you mean it was U.S. built? If so, the numbers aren't working quite well.
The VIN should be located on the left door hinge pillar, and it should match the engine serial number on a pad on the right front cylinder bank. The serial number should start with a letter that indicates assembly plant, then a second letter for series (in your case a "7" for "27"), then two numbers for your ("57"), a fifth "S" (synchromesh) or "H" (Hydra-Matic), then the sequence of production number.
The model number you show is strange. The "57" is good, and the "27" is good too. But the others don't correspond to anything shown. Check them carefully to see if you have copied them correctly (sometimes the stamping is hard to read).
Now if this is an Austrailian, or other foreing built car, we may have some problems figuring it all out. You don't mention what engine it has. Is it a Chevrolet engine-- therefore Canadian built?
Pass along some more info and we'll try to help some more. I would like to invite you to join PontiacRegistry.com. |
