hei distributor

Have a 55 starchief with 1958 motor in it and I want to change the dist to a pointless system (hei), has anybody done it and is there room pass the firewall and breather tube. My present dist looks very close to the breather and I understand the hei dist is wider. Any info would be greatly appreicated

Dave,
Have you looked into a Petronix pointless conversion using
your stock distributor? I know of a couple of guys who did
their early 60s with them with good results.

I've heard that the Pertronix conversion kits have had some quality issues for the past year or two.

Mallory also has a points elimintaor kit, but I have never heard of anyone using it.
