To many car enthusiast, we have local heroes that stand out more to us than any national level celebrities. These grassroots racers bring out the competitiveness in all of us and become heroes in the truest sense.

In the early 1970's in Missouri, a racing partnership began with two local men that lasted over a decade. Selden Ruwwe owned a large collection of early super duty aluminum equipped cars and wanted to set the local tracks on fire. When he met my father, Denis Redhage, an excellent mechanic and even better driver, the two men made a name for themselves all over the state of Missouri.

Local competitiors knew these men meant business when the 1962 Catalinas and 1963 Tempest arrived at the track. They put Pontiac back on the map at such tracks as Sullivan's "God's Thunder Valley Raceway," Mid-America Raceway in Wentzville, St. Genevieve Dragway and I-55 Dragway in Pevely.

Their success at these tracks spanned for nearly a decade until my father retired from drag racing. Over the ten years of racing success, my father won several events. 1979 was the highlight of the partnership, with my father powershifting his way in to victory lane at Pevely almost every weekend. This was a tough feat to accomplish since this track drew a large St. Louis crowd.

Nearly thirty years later, people from the St. Louis area still recognize my father as the extremely competitive driver that could bang gears like no others in the 1963 Tempest called "Pontiac Strikes Again." It is a good feeling to see so many remember these two men for the accomplishments they made. They put Pontiac back on the map in Missouri.

I would like to thank my father for the influence he had in my life and for being a wonderful man. He is by far the best 4-speed driver I have ever seen. I have seen a lot of good drivers over the years, but no one compares to his powershifting ability!

Just remember, old Pontiacs never die, they just get faster!!!!!
