A couple days ago I found a better chrome horn button for my 1940 Pontiac (standard wheel), but the rubber insulator inside the horn cap/button was shot. Fortunately Steele Rubber Products manufactures a new one (P/N 50-0409-21). Sadly it costs $50.00 buy the time it is mailed to you... but where else you gonna find one?!?
I was a bit confused when I found there was a right way and wrong way to install this. Even the "snap-ring" sort of clip that holds it in is different on the two sides- which you don't realize until you take it off and never pay attention until later.
The people at Steele didn't have information to help me, but suddenly I realized (dah?!?) I might check my Parts Manual. Son of a gun, there was a complete, very fine detailed exploded view of everything. It is labeled as 1939 but is exactly the same as my 1940 (at least as gar as I can tell).
So... in the interest of helping someone else with same or similar needs, below is a shot of the drawing. Hope it helps. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
