hello everyone,

I have a 400ci from a 78 W72 and I was wondering if it would be a good block to convert into a 69 ram air IV for my GTO 1969?

i have the #722 heads, the intake manifold, the exhaust manifold, the carb and the distributor.

The 400 is a very good engine. And, since the heads and perhaps pistons are where the compression differences between the early and later engines happens, why not? Sounds like you have the other RA specific items also. Sure it won't be "numbers matching" but I bet it will be fun.

You might want to bounce that question of of Bruce Fulper our Tech Advisor for the V-8s.

thanks for your reply, do you think that this is better with this W72 set up than with a 455ci?

I'm not a big-time racer guy. But I do know that a 400 is a darn good, build-able engine. However, it depends on how far you want to go with power modifications. You can go pretty nutz with a 400, so why go to a 455?

The 455 caries a certain mystique, but also high prices. If you're looking for a good street machine, a 400 setup like you're thinking would be a heck of a lot of engine.

Bruce (who I mentioned) builds some amazing 350 Pontiac engines too. So bigger may not always be better.
