I own a 1955 Chieftain 2 door wagon in need of a gas tank. Old one is beyond repair. I think the part number is 521936, but am having trouble finding one. Will a 1955 Chevrolet wagon gas tank work? (GM 47A) They seem to be available, any and all help would be appreciated.

The Hollander Interchange manual shows the '55 Chieftain gas tank interchanging with itself (well, of course), and the '56 Chieftain 860 2-door wagon and the '56 870 4-door wagon. Oddly, it does not show interchanging with the '56 860 4-door, so there must be some difference there.
Gas tanks are becoming near impossible to find. For my 1940 Pontiac I had to retrofit (with a good bit of modification to the actual tank and the strapping/mounting) a 1972 Nova tank.
If you can check the Chevy tank visually, there might be modifications that can be maid easily, but some of these cars don't even fill on the same sides. Just don't go mounting a fuel cell in the back- that is oh so dangerous... even though you see it all the time.
Check a some of our supporting venders like Indians Pontiacs, Frank's Pontiac parts, or even Pontiac Heaven. Google searches will find them all. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
