Hi This is my first time at this site. I am the original owner of a 1977 Trans Am. 6.6 liter, 4-speed, fully optioned car. It is out for a restoration and the only thing I want to change is the exhaust system. I would like a true dual exhaust system that will give the engine the growl it has been missing with the stock exhaust. I want to keep the chrome exhaust tips in the rear. Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

If you do a Google search for your car dual exhaust, you will find prices all over the place for "true" dual pipe configurations. I found for several hundred dollars all the way down to under $200 at Summit.
Summit has a great reputation for quality stuff, but then again some on the low price end may be cheap material too.
Pypes (also through Summit (though you can buy directly I believe) have a set-up for $400 and it includes the "H" crossover up front. Some people swear by that, others don't care.
Check here: http://www.summitracing.com/search/Part-Type/Exhaust-Systems/Year/1977/Make/PONTIAC/Model/FIREBIRD/ and I would suggest actually calling the Summit tech department and discussing this with them. They can explain all the differences in pricing and quality, also if the original tips will fit.
You can also investigate a local shop that could fabricate the system to your liking. It is pretty simple for the people with the right equipment and you will save shipping and headaches if there is a fit problem with mail order items. Plus they can weld instead of just clamping pieces. Study the technical specs of the ones offered and talk to your local guy. Don't go to a "chain" store shop, rather an old fashioned shop that has been around for a while. Ask your car buddies if they have a recommendation. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
