Hi Again Larry - hope you can save me once again. The wipers stopped working on my 66 Bonneville this week. I did replace the switch 3 years ago and the washers still work, so I am presuming the motor is kaput. Any idea where I can either get one or have this one rebuilt? I checked out Ames Performance and Rock Auto - no luck at either place.
Thanks for all the help in the past. |

First thought would be to find a good used one. I bet Frank at Frank's Pontiac Parts would have a nice one. His prices are very fair too. See his ad to the left and give him a call.
Second thought would be rebuilding the motor. Our friend Rick in Rhode Island (partner in our "Pontiac Celebration" shows) just had his '67 wagon tailgate motor rebuilt locally. Also John Gunnell recently sent me info on a company doing this. If you want to go the rebuilding route, let me know and I'll get you the info on these two places.
Have you hot wired the motor to be sure it is kaput? _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

How do I hot wire the motor? There are 3 terminals, can I run a wire to any of the three. I did use a tester from the battery and it only lit up when I touched the middle terminal. I do have the repair manual but can't find it since I moved.
Thanks again |

Is the center lead of the plug portion the part that is hot? If so, and you are getting juice there, I'm guessing that is enough info to tell you that power is getting to the motor. That was what I was concerned with.
If you can't find your manual, we have the 1966 manual in our On-Line Reference Library for you. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |

I tested the plug that goes onto the motor. As I mentioned earlier, I connected my circuit test light to the negative terminal on the battery post and touched the center terminal on the wiper motor plug and it is live, it is definitely for the washers which do work. If I touch either of the left or right terminals, the circuit tester does not light, I presume there should be power to one of them, depending on whether the switch is on high or low??? As I also mentioned, the switch is only 3 years old but I did connect an old switch and got the same results. I am just trying to determine if the problem is the motor or the power going to it. I don't mind buying another motor if it does solve the problem. |

If you go to our 1966 Service Manual in our On-Line Reference Library, you will find starting on page 12-29 fifteen pages of extremely detailed wiper information, diagrams, procedures, etc.
I know it is a lot to digest, but follow some of the diagrams and you may find your problem. There are a number of relays, resistors, etc. that may be your problem. _________________ PontiacRegistry.com... building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world! |
