Huxel's Auto Salvage is a unique junk yard located in east central Missouri. The yard is located about 20 miles from interstate I-44 at the St. Clair exit. I will be snapping some photos of this yard next week.
The junk yard contains numerous cars from the 50's through 80's. The biggest plus is they are all american made cars. From what I hear, there are a lot of old Pontiacs. Of my particular interest, he is suppose to have several 1963 Tempests. I guess I will find out soon enough.
I will try to be very thorough in my search. Maybe a member will find something they have been searching for.
From what I know, Mr. Huxel is a retired Chrysler employee. He is like many of us, he loves old cars. His yard was more of a personal collection than anything else. It is great to have guys like this. I am sure he has saved many great parts cars from doom over the past 25 to 30 years.
When I spoke with Mr. Huxel, he informed me several of the cars had no titles. Since he is retired though, it probably works out great for him to tinker in the yard and remove parts and ship them to people.
I look forward to uncovering some real Pontiac gems.
It would be great if other members would share info about their local salvage yards. I am sure there are many great ones still left in the U.S. Many of them have disappeared in Missouri. If you are needing any specific parts, just reply. I would be more than happy to see what he has available. Tri-power intakes, 8-lug wheels, posi rearends, trim pieces, good sheetmetal....let me know.
Any great salvage yards in bordering states of Missouri? I would love to visit them.
One man's junk is another man's treasure!!
Jeff

I'm in Niles MI. which is in the lower southern part of MI. right next to Lake MI. Most of the yards around here have nothing left in them from the old days. They during the black period of the gov. trying to get the old cars off the road & the scrape metal went way up all the yards around here just crushed all the good parts cars so anything within 50 miles of me are now empty of anything older then 15 years. all the good parts cars around here are gone. _________________ I have a 73 GTO that I bought new, well it was a demo because the car I ordered was an SD car which never came in & i had to take what was left because I was in the Navy & had to talk to the dealer when I could. |
